Peter entered the legal profession after a long career in the shipping industry, latterly as a surveyor with the Isle of Man Ship Registry during which time he obtained his law degree.
Having considerable experience in surveying merchant ships , commercial yachts and fishing vessels Peter has acted in recent shipping cases before the Isle of Man Courts, including The “Baltic Ace” and the “MY XTC” on the issue of Limitation of Liability. Both were complex international casualty claims which raised a number of issues of law and their application in the Isle of Man.
Since qualifying as a Manx Advocate in 2010, Peter has amassed a wide range of litigation experience including, Shipping, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury claims, Common Law claims (Contract and Tort), Commercial Law, Employment Law , Work Permit Legislation, Mental Health Law and Criminal Law.
Peter has appeared before all of the Courts in the Isle of Man, including the appeal court, and before most Tribunals, including the Employment Tribunal and the Mental Health Tribunal.
Peter has a detailed knowledge of seafaring employment matters under the relevant Merchant Shipping Acts and can advise on all aspects of employment, contracts, work place disputes, regulatory issues and proceedings.
In addition to being an Advocate, Peter also has a degree in mechanical engineering and has been a Chartered Engineer since 1995 and also advises on engineering related matters including machinery failures and accidents.
Peter is a panel advocate for the seafarer union Nautilus and an accredited Police Station Advocate.
